Greetings

In more than 30 years as a counselor and psychologist I have served individuals and groups in university + community-based settings.  I consider myself to be a generalist who provides support for a range of issues and concerns we experience as human beings.  Because these mostly involve our relationships (with self + others) and our work/career efforts, it made sense to name the practice Life/Work Psychotherapy.

Professional experiences & Reflections on my work

Life presents us with (often painful) challenges and I do not believe that the related struggles make us somehow flawed. Rather, these experiences are better seen as additions to the life narratives that both shape our identities and how we are understood by others. Since we also need community & connection for greater life satisfaction and self-efficacy, therapy stands as a unique collaborative space for personal exploration of one's narrative and how to find ways of embracing change for growth, and empowerment.

My work is largely informed by psychodynamic (attachment theory), humanistic and interpersonal approaches, and I welcome working with individuals whose identities and lived experiences differ from my own.  Prior to starting Life/Work, I worked at the University of Minnesota for 25 years - first as a Sr. Psychologist at the Student Counseling Services (SCS), and later as Director of Learner Development at the Medical School (10 yrs). These collective experiences gave me intimate opportunities to understand the importance of life transitions in relationships + career decisions, as well as how to support individuals facing performance challenges in high demand professions.  I value the privilege of having been part of so many individual journeys and am excited to continue doing so through Life/Work Psychotherapy.

Outside of work, my time is gratefully devoted to family & friends, music, live performances, yoga, travel, cooking and golf. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you.
